Tips for storing and caring for THOMAS SABO jewellery

To ensure you enjoy your precious and beautiful jewellery for as long as
possible, you should follow a few basic rules:
– Rings and other items of jewellery should preferably not be worn while
working in the house or garden, while swimming (in salt or chlorinated
water) or during sports.
– The jewellery should be taken off before going to bed and prior to
showering.
– Perfume and hairspray can remove the sheen and remove the brilliance of
the jewellery. For this reason, it is advisable to use perfume, hairspray and
other cosmetics before putting on the jewellery.

CLEANING

Items of THOMAS SABO jewellery are generally made from Sterling Silver.
Correct and regular care can prolong the durability of the jewellery.

Silver

Sterling Silver tarnishes if exposed to the elements for longer periods of time.
To prevent tarnishing and scratching, the jewellery should be kept in a pouch
in a cool, dry place. It is advisable to regularly polish the jewellery with an
untreated, soft cloth or a special silver cloth.

Soap, crème and make-up residues can be removed using an ultrasound device.
The ultrasound device should not contain aggressive cleaning agents. For best
results, use water and a neutral detergent.
For standard commercial silver dipping baths, only silver jewellery dipping
baths must be used. In other words: no silver cutlery dipping baths and no gold
jewellery dipping baths!
Silver is a soft material; therefore, clapping your hands when wearing rings
should be avoided.

Natural inlays (mother-of-pearl)

Jewellery with natural inlays such as mother-of-pearl should be wiped down
with a damp cloth – without soap – to remove dirt particles. Mother-of-pearl is
an organic compound and is not compatible with any kind of solvent!
To prevent scratches and damage caused by its sensitive surface, it is not
advisable to store mother-of-pearl with other jewellery. Never place in a silver
dipping bath!

Lapis lazuli/turquoise jewellery/coral

Lapis lazuli and turquoise should always be rubbed down using only a damp,
soft cloth or cleaned by holding under running water and using a soft brush.
These stones must not be treated with soapy water or in a silver-dipping bath.
These are also organic compounds and hence sensitive to solvents of all kinds.
Lapis lazuli and turquoise jewellery must not come into contact with
perfume, make-up or hairspray. Exposure to strong sunlight (UV light) can
cause colour changes.

Imitation pearls

Imitation pearls must not come into contact with perfume, make-up or
hairspray. Their coating is damaged by alcohol or other solvents. If worn
frequently, hand-strung pearls require occasional restringing, as the silk used
to string them can become brittle and tear (which is why there is a knot
between each pearl).
Never place imitation pearls in a silver dipping bath! Only rub the pearls down
with a soft cloth, as the pearl silk could become wet and brittle. Exposure to
strong sunlight (UV light) can cause colour changes.
Blackened items of jewellery
Blackened items of jewellery should not be cleaned using a silver dipping
bath or polished with a silver cloth as these may remove the blackening.
Leather and silk cords
In the case of leather and silk cords, only clean the silver parts with a silver
cloth. Leather and silk cords must not be placed in a silver dipping bath or
cleaned in an ultrasound device.

Zirconia

Zirconia stones look great after being cleaned in an ultrasound device.
But a cleaning cloth will also achieve the desired result. And zirconia can
also be placed in a silver jewellery dipping bath.

Storage

For the appropriate storage of THOMAS SABO jewellery, simply remember
that zirconia stones are comparable with diamonds in terms of their hardness.
Therefore, it is advisable to always provide your jewels with sufficient space
to ensure that they are not scratched. We therefore highly recommend using
a jewellery box or a jewellery case with as many soft compartments and ring
tracks as possible.
